The Best Desserts
in Covent Garden.

Past the tourist traps and into what's actually worth eating in one of London's most visited neighbourhoods.

Covent Garden is a complicated neighbourhood to eat in. The foot traffic is enormous and the demand for tourist-friendly, high-throughput options means that a significant proportion of what is on offer is aimed at convenience rather than quality. But if you know where to look, the neighbourhood has some genuinely excellent options — and some of the best are hidden in plain sight.

Gelatone

Artisanal Gelato23 Rose Street, WC2E 9EA

The best dessert in Covent Garden, full stop. Gelatone makes everything fresh each morning using ingredients sourced directly from their producers: pistachios from Bronte in Sicily, hazelnuts from Piedmont, milk from Somerset. The menu changes with the season and is deliberately small — never more than ten flavours at once, all of them made to be consumed that day. The pistachio gelato is the most accurate expression of a Bronte pistachio we have found in London.

Covent Garden's independent bakeries

PastryNeal Street & Floral Street area

A handful of independent bakeries in the streets surrounding the main piazza — particularly Neal Street and Floral Street — offer afternoon and early-evening pastry worth seeking out. Quality varies, but the best of them have a level of craft and ingredient seriousness that holds its own against the best patisseries in the city. Look for laminated pastry (croissants, kouign-amann) as a signal of technical commitment.

Seven Dials dessert bars

Dessert barSeven Dials, WC2H

The Seven Dials area — a short walk from the piazza, with a more neighbourhood feel — has several dessert-focused spots that stay open late on weekends. The category ranges from Japanese-influenced kakigori to European-style dessert bars. The quality is higher here than on the tourist-facing streets around the market buildings.
