The quality is inconsistent and the tourist premium is real. Navigate one or two streets off the main drag and the options improve considerably. Rose Street, Floral Street, and Neal Street all have better independent options than the piazza itself.

A five-minute walk from Covent Garden's main piazza, Seven Dials has a more independent, neighbourhood feel and a number of good post-dinner options. The streets radiating from the central column — particularly Neal Street and Earlham Street — have a mix of cafés and bars that stay open late and attract a less tourist-heavy crowd than the piazza itself.

Walking east along the Strand after dinner in Covent Garden opens up a different set of options, including the bar and lounge at The Savoy, which serves desserts and drinks until late. The aesthetic is grander and the price point is higher, but for a specific kind of evening — theatre, celebration, occasion — it is a natural extension of a Covent Garden dinner.
